{"id":885,"date":"2019-05-14T11:31:33","date_gmt":"2019-05-14T11:31:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/humananimalstudies.net\/?p=885"},"modified":"2019-05-17T15:21:12","modified_gmt":"2019-05-17T15:21:12","slug":"seminario","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/humananimalstudies.net\/en\/2019\/05\/14\/seminario\/","title":{"rendered":"Semin\u00e1rio"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>HAS@ICS-ULisboa 2019 \u2013 Children-Animals Relationships&nbsp;<\/strong><br>6 June 2019 \u2013 10h00 \u2013 ICS-ULisboa,&nbsp;<br>Room: Polivalente<br>Invited Keynote: Margo de Mello<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Title: Rabbits and Children: A Complicated History<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This talk will look at the history of rabbits and children\u2014a relationship that we take for granted today, but that is much more complicated than it appears.&nbsp;<br><br>The talk will cover the origins of the rabbit\/child connection in the myths and symbols of cultures around the world, many of which play on the rabbits\u2019 biological propensity for reproduction.&nbsp;<br><br>Those myths evolved into, for example, the centrality of the rabbit in children\u2019s Easter celebrations, the dominance of rabbits as the subject of children\u2019s stories and toys, the boom in rabbit breeding during the Victorian era, and ultimately, the concept of the rabbit as a children\u2019s or \u201cstarter\u201d pet for families around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Margo DeMello<\/strong>&nbsp;\/\/ Animals &amp; Society Institute, USA<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Received her Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology from U.C. Davis in 1995. She is an Adjunct Professor at Canisius College in the Anthrozoology Masters Program, and the Program Director for Human-Animal Studies at the Animals and Society Institute.
