The project explores the relational continuum between human and non-human animals in the experience of survival that follows disasters. How are animals taken into account in risk management strategies? How are their lives affected by disasters, and rebuilt in the aftermath, alongside the lives of humans? Beyond the risks to endangered species and related ecosystems, this research highlights the need to consider the diversity of human-animal bonds in emergency response, as non-human animals, including companion animals, are among the most vulnerable living beings in a disaster.
